"Damaged the Republic, ambassador. Only damaged. The Republic is still here, its people rebuilding. All of this..." The machine gestures to the station around them, and the screens through which they talk. "Is the Republic. It is not gone, nor destroyed. What happened here, and what happened to the Union, while similar in some respects, are not the same thing."

There is definitely a nasty edge in the envoy's voice as the Deathspire connection activates.
"There is a significant difference between zero point one percent casualties and ninety-nine percent casualties, Intruder. The damage inflicted in the bombardment of Neo-terra was relatively superficial, as I'm sure even the Republic would agree. They saw our firepower, they know that if we seriously wished to destroy their race, we could have done considerably more damage. We had the - perhaps, in retrospect, bloodyminded and naive - intent to help the Neo-terrans, not annihilate them. I doubt you can say the same thing for your actions against a peaceful research station. That alone means that we will never even consider cooperating with this expedition, let alone fielding our ultracapitals to support it."
He pauses.
"In other news, I have the duty of announcing that in view of the apparent inability of the Valii government to control its forces, on top of our previous doubts as to their stability and the threat that they pose to our allies, Imperium forces will be moving to occupy Valii territory within the hour."
The glowing red helix of the helmet burns into the screen.
"This is not conquest, nor is it extermination. It is a case of cleaning house for them, as they seem incapable of doing so. We know better than most that a wounded and aggressive animal is still a dangerous one. Any who cooperate will be spared. Any who fight will be destroyed."
The connection severs.

Impassively, the Intruder delivers a brief statement.
"Your attack on the Valiaas violates the terms of our ceasefire. We shall retaliate for this unprovoked attack."

"I would not call the evidence that a large faction amongst the Valii are still quite willing to engage in hostilities 'unprovoked,' good ambassador. This attack, as stated, is not made to kill non-combatants. It is not designed to eliminate the Valii. This is a directed attack against House Savaaik. Just because they do not have the, if you will pardon my expression, guts to attack first does not mean they would not have attacked at all.
"Unfortunately, this cease-fire was not drawn up in any official fashion either, aside from a willingness to see it happen. The Valii have an hour to prepare and assemble, which is reasonable for combat operations. Furthermore, there is evidence that the Valii have done such actions that you protest. The failed attack on the Imperium's home station, for example, was initiated after we of the Remnant had called for a similar cease-fire and talks for peace.
"This fight will not spread beyond the Savaaik; we shall do all within our power to assure this."

"The fact that the Valiaas are willing to attack does not itself count as a hostile act. Regardless of the targets of the attack, our allies will be defended."
"Though you may not be aware of the fact, our discussions have revealed that House Immara currently controls much of the Valiaas military, and so those who are willing to attack are in fact not able to do so, however it is likely this attack will simply allow them to take command and achieve their aims."
"Our ceasefire was agreed with the Kingdom of Talos. Its terms have been broken, thus we no longer consider ourselves bound by it. Formally drawn up or not, we have honoured its terms and would have continued to do so."
"As a final point, it is House Savaaik with whom we are allied. No other house has been willing to make contact with us, just as no other empire has prior to our decision to take part in these discussions. We have few friends, but we will take care of those we have."

"Deligates please! Saaviks outburst aside we have no reason to suspect the Valii would break the cease fire, I would like to request the Imperium does no go through with these attacks, as it will result in thier breaking of he cease fire"
"But, if we're going through with this, I request that the Republic be allowed to deploy it's peacekeeping forces to the engagment zone, we will not engage either side, insead ensure civillians and any surrendering ships are proteced as they should be, ina ddition we beseech the Remnant to aid us with this instead of directly supporting the Imperiums barley justified attack"

Jason speaks up again.
"At the moment Talos intends to remain uninvolved in this conflict, as we intend to honor the terms of the agreement with the Domain. Should we choose to get involved we will also pull out of this conference, in keeping with the agreement."

"Very well, as it seems we cannot avoid the clahes between Saavik miltiary and the Imperium forces. Therefore we motion to deploy peackeeping forces to the Valii system, in order to provide protection to the Valii civillians and civillian infestructure, as our own fleet is some distance from Valii, we motion that teh Remnant assume peacekeeping duties in our stead until we arrive."
"The peacekeepers job is simple, they will gaurd and evacuate civillians from danger zones, and will not aid any side of this comflict, but if fired upon in thier duties will retaliate, may I at least get an agreement out of the parties invovled with that?"

The Intruder addressed the other delegates.
"I came here because I was asked to discuss peace. I have learned, however, that there cannot be any such thing. We have honoured our agreements, we have begun to undo the damage we have caused, and yet we face resistance, aggression and outright betrayal at every turn. You are no more than bickering children, and none of you are worthy of the empires you command. You claim to be civilised, and yet your empires are bought with the blood of others. We are not perfect, but we at least acknowledge that we are at fault and I have done much to ensure we do not make the same mistakes again, but you do not learn. You do not change. You who look down and condemn us are merely hiding from your own shame and guilt. You had a chance to become something, to forge an alliance that was far greater than the sum of its parts, but you have squandered it with your petty disputes."
The Intruder then turned its attention to the Imperium's delegate.
"Of the Imperium, we have only this to say: your attack on the Valiaas is nothing short of dishonourable. They are no threat to you, and even if they had chosen to attack, your fleets would easily have repelled them. You attacked them under a flag of peace, and make up vague excuses to conceal your own deceit. You call yourselves warriors, but your actions speak louder than your words. You are liars, traitors and cowards. You are all the worst traits in humanity gathered together, and only your utter destruction can cleanse the galaxy of your taint."
There is a long pause, before the Intruder finishes.
"I have done all I can, and yet you spit in our faces. I am old and I am tired. It ends. Here. Now."

- So, after all, it seems that the Savaaik were right all along. We are now convinced that nothing less than complete erradication of the Deathspire can bring peace to the empires. The factions present here have been mislead by the Imperium's talk of peace once. Where the Valii pushed forward and almost put an end to this threat, other nations just watched from a safe distance as the threat from the Deathspire grew. If you stay still for a while longer, there might be nothing left to save.
- The Valiaas are proud people, we will fight until the very end. But our fleets are weakened by the war and alone we stand little chance of resistance. But if our world is the price we have to pay for finally convincing the empires to destroy the Deathspire threat, so be it.
- Deathspire scum, you have violated the cease-fire, and we do not feel bound by it any more. May your wretched world protect you if I ever see you -- you will not leave this station alive.
- And to the rest of the council: Is there any courage among your people? Any loyalty? Is there any sense of fighting for what is right? Do not hide under your banner of "peacekeeping". The only way to maintain peace is to enter this war.

While all the arguing and debating went on, the Hive Queen sat quietly in the special quarters set aside for her and watched the organics with intense interest. Finally she speaks up.
"It seems we have gotten off topic here. I came here to discuss a formal peace agreement with the Neo-Terrans and there allies, to combat this threat in the east. But all I see is a bunch of squabbling going on. Our analysis shows that organics seldom keep their word. How can we be sure that this treaty won't last long enough to gather information on the Eastern Threat? We will fully cooperate, but we need a concrete guarantee before we lend any ships to this "task force."

"We broke no cease-fire. None was placed on us."
The Imperium representative stands, and glowers into the connection. "We expected little from these talks and received even less. There will be peace - when the Domain, the Valii and the Hive are broken, or when the last Child dies. But I think the former more likely."
"If you thought we would ever consider a truce with those who annihilated our cousins, the Union, then you clearly do not understand us. The Domain will burn, and the Hive will burn. There can be no forgiveness for what they did. There. No more deception. We tried to play it your way, and we failed."
"We're going back to our roots. The Republic, the Kingdom, and of course the Remnant, will be supported and treated as though they were our own. Everything else is a target. Farewell."
The Deathspire link disconnects and shuts down entirely. Shortly afterwards, the stealth transport that brought them to Hope undocks and vanishes.

Though the Domain's representative now lies inert, it is still linked to the remainder of the fleet. A transmission is received, and relayed onto the displays for any remaining delegates to see.
The image shown is of sys-17, its nebula now gone and a new jump node in its place. The Domain fleet is seen moving in towards this new node, but the signal cuts off before the first ships begin their jump.
